Shahid Kapoor stands tall in ‘Mausam’ (IANS Movie Review – Rating: ****)

Film: ‘Mausam’; Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Supriya Pathak, Anupam Kher and Aditi Sharma; Writer|Director: Pankaj Kapoor
Rating: ****

There is an absolutely devastating moment of pure drama in this eagerly|awaited far|from|disappointing romance where Shahid Kapoor, playing one of the most deliciously challenging roles of his career, espies from a train the lost love of his life, Sonam Kapoor, standing forlorn in the snow with luggage, like Meryl Streep in ‘The French Lieutenant’s Woman’ or Manisha Koirala in ‘Dil Se’, waiting for god knows what! The next train? Love? Death? Or the next life?
It’s a moment that defines ‘Mausam’, a film that has some serious flaws, but finally holds together as a work of renaissance art, more remarkable, in parts outstanding, for what it attempts rather than what it finally achieves.
Pankaj Kapoor takes the Muslim|Hindu love story between a Kashmiri refugee girl and a Punjabi boy through an arching sweep of history. Every historical trauma that has defined and defiled India and Indians in the last 30 years props up as a vital image to underline the love story.
And what ‘Mausam’ finally says is, love becomes impossible in a civilization that chooses to define itself by violence rather than peace. Gandhi? He could be just a spectre that never existed in a world where two young people cannot come together in a clasp of love for the fear of falling into a terror trap.
We have award|worthy performances in ‘Mausam’ by the hero who happens to be the director’s son. But that is just a karmic coincidence, like much of what transpires between the lovers in ‘Mausam’.
The film goes from one phase in the couple’s life to another, not quite smoothly but not strenuously either. The transitions in their estrangement are mapped out in some finely|written scenes where the couple’s smothered affections for one another are manifested in moments of sublime beauty.
The ever|brilliant cinematographer Binod Pradhan captures the couple against breathtaking backdrops in rural Punjab and Scotland.
‘Mausam’ is one of the best|looking films in recent times. The transitions in time and topography are brought about with a fair degree of inner conviction and outer resplendence.
The synthesis of the lovers’ inner and outer world is not always stress|free. The couple’s inability to come together through various tragic and traumatic historical conflicts is depicted in scenes that range from the rivetting to the mundane.
Visually the film is a feast.
The film’s strong sense of purpose and its love|defining affiliation to socio|cultural incidents leave little space for the incidental characters (of whom there are many) to grow in the plot. That, in a way, is the need of the plot. But you do crave to see more of the lives around the couple and how these lives and the relationships qualify the love story at the film’s centre. You want to see the long|lasting friendship between Aayaat’s Muslim father (Kamalnain Chopra) and the Kashmir Pundit (Anupam Kher).
And there is a plenty of quality of that sublime stillness in the storytelling – the film’s extraneous correctness hides much of the film’s intrinsic inconsistencies. Then there is Shahid, standing tall with a performance that puts him right up there among the finest contemporary actors.
Shahid takes us through the film’s and his character’s romantic odyssey, inconsistencies and all. Forget Tom Cruise. In the Airforce uniform he reminds us of Rajesh Khanna in ‘Aradhana’. And that’s the highest compliment any contemporary star can be paid.
The director tries hard to merge Sonam in the resplendent ambience. Her performance has enchanting echoes of Kareena Kapoor in ‘Refugee’. The camera gives her no room to complain. But in the intensely romantic moments, she looks lost rather than lovelorn.
It’s the other girl, the spirited Punjabi kudi Rajjo, in Shahid’s life played by Aditi Sharma, who fills up the small space provided to her character.
‘Mausam’ is about the thwarted love between Harry and Aayaat. When they finally meet during the Gujarat riots, they seem to discover not love but its aftermath, which is a far greater thing than love.
Where the film seems to lag behind is in creating emotional pockets for the couple’s mutual feelings to develop. Shahid playing Harry the Punjabi wastrel turned air|force officer and Sonam playing Aayaat the refugee from Kashmir, have several shared tender moments . The stand|out ones all come towards the second|half when loves grows impossible between the couple.
The climactic reconciliation during the Gujarat riots, enacted with supreme passion by Shahid, stands out for its stark dialogues that intercut between the couple’s long pent|up feeling of separation and the socio|political forces that have kept them from each other.
The climax on a ferri’s wheel appears a trifle manufactured.
Editor Sreekar Prasad’s smooth flow in the narration is suddenly stymied in the search for a jolting finale.
But you have to hand it to Pankaj Kapoor. In his directorial debut, he tells an old|fashioned story of love, separation and reunion with flourishes and flashes of great cinema igniting what would in lesser hands, appear to be a trite tale of love gone frightfully cliched.
And yes, Pritam’s music is apt. But the best tunes ‘Abhi na jao chod kar’ and ‘Ajeeb dastaan hain yeh’, are not his.

A look at the salient features of Jan Lokpal Bill:

1. An institution called LOKPAL at the centre and LOKAYUKTA in each state will be set up

2. Like Supreme Court and Election Commission, they will be completely independent of the governments. No minister or bureaucrat will be able to influence their investigations.

3. Cases against corrupt people will not linger on for years anymore: Investigations in any case will have to be completed in one year. Trial should be completed in next one year so that the corrupt politician, officer or judge is sent to jail within two years.

4. The loss that a corrupt person caused to the government will be recovered at the time of conviction.

5. How will it help a common citizen: If any work of any citizen is not done in prescribed time in any government office, Lokpal will impose financial penalty on guilty officers, which will be given as compensation to the complainant.

6. So, you could approach Lokpal if your ration card or passport or voter card is not being made or if police is not registering your case or any other work is not being done in prescribed time. Lokpal will have to get it done in a month's time. You could also report any case of corruption to Lokpal like ration being siphoned off, poor quality roads been constructed or panchayat funds being siphoned off. Lokpal will have to complete its investigations in a year, trial will be over in next one year and the guilty will go to jail within two years.

7. But won't the government appoint corrupt and weak people as Lokpal members? That won't be possible because its members will be selected by judges, citizens and constitutional authorities and not by politicians, through a completely transparent and participatory process.

8. What if some officer in Lokpal becomes corrupt? The entire functioning of Lokpal/ Lokayukta will be completely transparent. Any complaint against any officer of Lokpal shall be investigated and the officer dismissed within two months.

9. What will happen to existing anti-corruption agencies? CVC, departmental vigilance and anti-corruption branch of CBI will be merged into Lokpal. Lokpal will have complete powers and machinery to independently investigate and prosecute any officer, judge or politician.

10. It will be the duty of the Lokpal to provide protection to those who are being victimized for raising their voice against corruption.

Jennifer Lopez + 30 minutes = 1 Million Dollar Wao

Eine Millionen Dollar? In 30 Minuten?

"HER HER MAHADEV SHAMBHU KASHI VISHVNATH GANGE"
"BABA BADE DYALU HAI"

Shiva is one of the main deities of Hinduism that is worshipped as the paramount lord by the Shaivaite sects of India. In Hinduism, Lord Shiva is regarded as the representation of the Supreme Being. He is known as the third element in the Hindu Trinity (Trimurti), the other two members being Lord Brahma - the creator and Lord Vishnu - the protector. Shiva is the destructive form of the Almighty. As the cycle of destruction and recreation is always in a circle, Shiva’s primary responsibility is maintaining the life cycle. Scholars say, as the Mahakaal, Shiva destroys and dissolves everything into nothingness but as Shankara, he also reproduces that which has been destroyed and dissolved. His symbol of Lingam or the phallus represents this reproductive power.

Sacred Ganga: The holiest of the holy rivers, Ganga flows from the matted hair of Shiva. According to a legend, Shiva allowed an outlet to the great river to traverse the earth and bring purifying water to human being. Ganga also denotes fertility - one of the creative aspects of the Rudra.

The Third Eye: Lord Shiva is known as the three eyed Lord or Tryambaka Deva. The sun is his right eye, the moon left while the third eye of Shiva on his forehead is the eye of wisdom. It is the eye that looks beyond the obvious. The third eye can search evil from anywhere and destroys it completely.

The Cobra Necklace: This suggests that Shiva is beyond the powers of death and is often the sole support in case of distress. He swallowed the poison kalketu for the wellbeing of the Universe. The deadly cobra represents that “death” aspect that Shiva has thoroughly conquered. The cobras around his neck also represent the dormant energy, called Kundalini, the serpent power. The snake curled three times around the neck of Lord Shiva depicts the past, present and future time. The snake looking in the right direction of Lord Shiva signifies that the Lord's perpetual laws of reason and justice preserve natural order in the universe.

Damaru (Drum): A small drum with two sides alienated from each other by a thin neck-like structure represents the two utterly different states of existence, unclear and clear. When a damaru is shaken, the sound formed denotes Nada, the cosmic sound of AUM, which can be heard during deep meditation.

Nandi, the Bull: Nandi is said to be the vehicle of Lord Shiva. The bull represents both power and ignorance. Lord Shiva's use of the bull as his vehicle expresses the idea that He removes ignorance and bequeaths power of wisdom on His followers.

How To Get Blogger Traffic Free Search Engine Optimization By telecominfo.in

There are plenty of ways that you can attract free blog traffic if you know what to do. First and foremost, you should be hosting your own blog to earn free blog traffic, rather than having your blog hosted by WordPress, Blogger or another similar platform. There are stories floating around about bloggers that made money on hosted blogs, then had Google pull their blogs, preventing them from making money as they had been in the past. Can you imagine putting months of hard work into a blog and then having it taken away from you? Don’t do it!
When you host your own blog on your own website, you have control over absolutely every aspect of it, preventing this from happening to you. Now, here are some tips to increasing the amount of free blog traffic that you bring in to your website:

1 – First and foremost, if you enjoy blogging then spend a lot of time doing it. Spend several hours a day working on attracting free blog traffic by writing in your blog. The best way to get noticed is to prove that you are passionate about your blogging endeavor.

2 – Develop a detailed list of long tail keywords and keyword phrases for use on your website and then work on targeting those keywords in your blog titles as well as in the intro and the closing for each of your blog entries as well.

3 – Make sure that you are blogging every day, or at least consistently. Blog several times a day, so that the search engines will see that you are posting new, fresh and interesting content at regular intervals. The more you post, the more search engines will want to index your blog for an increase in free blog traffic.

4 – Bookmark all of your blog articles in the top social networking and social media directories. Some services out there are capable of bookmarking blog entries on multiple directories, such as telecominfo.in for example.

5 – Take some of your content and post it elsewhere on the web, such as on Ezinearticles.com for example. This is the largest article submission directly on the internet, and it will help you develop more backlinks for an increase in free blog traffic.
If you do this every single day, then you will slowly begin to build free blog traffic as well as sales, newsletter subscriptions and other actions that you are looking to create from your blog. Keep in mind that free blog traffic is vital, but if your blog is trying to sell something, raise awareness of something or garner more newsletter subscriptions, then attracting free blog traffic is really just the beginning. The more free blog traffic you attract, the more sales and sign ups you will end up attracting over time in order to create a wildly successful blog online.

::: Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara - Movie Review ::: Rating : 3.5 Stars by telecominfo.in

By himanshu gupta, July 15, 2011 - 07:58 IST

By and large, after graduating from school/university, before one steps into a fresh phase in life, friends do settle on having some fun… It could be an extended bachelor party. It could be an excursion. Living each moment to the fullest is what most of us are thinking at that point of time. ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA is also about living each precious moment, as if there's no tomorrow. It's a film that also deals with surmounting and overpowering our personal fears. In this case, it changes the lives of three youngsters who embark on a road trip to Spain.

Zoya Akhtar represents the new brigade in Bollywood. But the talented storyteller is mired in controversies pertaining to ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA. Is it similar to HANGOVER? Or is it a present-day adaptation of Farhan Akhtar's directorial debut DIL CHAHTA HAI?

Sure, ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA is a buddy film like DIL CHAHTA HAI or like any other film that focuses on friends. But comparing DIL CHAHTA HAI and ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA won't be correct. For, the difference lies in the fact that the individuals in both the films face diverse problems. Aamir, Akshaye and Saif's dilemma is different from that of Hrithik, Farhan and Abhay. Perhaps, people tend to draw parallels between the two films because both focus on male bonding and are also produced by the same production house [Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar]. While DIL CHAHTA HAI was about the friendship between three youngsters and the individual journey each of them undertakes subsequently, ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA is poles apart in terms of content [screenplay: Reema Kagti and Zoya Akhtar] as well as execution of the written material.

There's concern that ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA caters to the urban centres of India chiefly. People beyond the metros wouldn't be able to relate with the goings-on. Sure, ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA is a refined film, a metro-centric film primarily, so what's wrong with that? Yes, it's unlike the masala films some of us relish with glee. But if masala means entertainment, amusement, hilarity, escapade, emotions and drama, yes, ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA has it all. Only thing, it's treated differently. Everyone has his/her style of interpreting a tale, after all.

ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA is real and can be rightly termed as a slice of life film. The protagonists don't play 'heroes' in the conventional terms; they are not presented as larger than life here. Zoya's ability in bringing offbeat elements in mainstream cinema needs to be applauded and appreciated. Zoya understands the intricacies of human behavior, which was evident in her debut film, and ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA strives to impeccably integrate authentic characters and bona fide situations on celluloid.

But the film is not without its share of blemishes. To start with, the drama is missing in the first hour. In fact, the first half comes across as a collage of some well executed sequences. Also, the comic scenes fail to evoke mirth. The three protagonists' attempt to scare strangers in a restroom, bar and on a lonely street doesn't gel well with their suave personalities on-screen. However, if the intention was to evoke laughter, sorry, these scenes fall flat. Besides, mocking at Doordarshan seems out of place and also appears in poor taste. Most importantly, the first half comes across as a showreel to promote Spain Tourism.

Another aspect that goes against the film is its running time. One tends to get restless after a point. In addition, the pacing is lethargic at places and it also gets talk-heavy. Zoya could've been ruthless in bringing down the length of the film. It would've only been more impactful.

Three young men take a holiday that changes their lives forever. Kabir [Abhay Deol] is engaged to Natasha [Kalki]. Kabir decides to go on an extended bachelor party, before he gets married. A 3-week road trip with Imraan [Farhan Akhtar] and Arjun [Hrithik Roshan], his two best friends since school. The only problem is Arjun is too tied up with work. After much emotional blackmail and cajoling, the boys set off on a journey they were meant to take four years ago. A fantasy holiday they had planned to take after college, which never happened. A road trip where each one gets to do the ultimate sport of his choice and the other two just have to do it with him. Whether they want to or not!

Kabir, Imraan and Arjun meet up in Barcelona and set off on an adventure that not only make them iron out their differences, but also face their fears, alter their perception, unravel their fabric, force them to break out of the box and teach them to seize the day. This holiday changes their lives forever.

A travel film is tough to shoot. And it gets all the more difficult when you have a story involving multiple characters. Unlike LUCK BY CHANCE, Zoya does something visually and thematically diverse this time around. In ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA, Zoya chooses an attention-grabbing story and garnishes it well with moments that may seem straight out of a person's memoirs. In fact, it's a completely novel take on comrades and camaraderie. While the first half has several wonderful moments [the strain between the two friends is well presented], the post-interval portions -- right till the well-thought-of culmination -- keeps your attention arrested.

Reema and Zoya have penned the script with a lot of care and concern, borrowing incidents from real life. Besides, the fresh dialogue [Farhan Akhtar] augment the impact of numerous sequences. The exquisite cinematography is another aspect that catches your attention. The spectacular locales of Spain have been captured on celluloid with dexterity by Carlos Catalan. In an era where earsplitting and tawdry tunes are working big time, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy come up with tunes that the youth would take a fondness for instantaneously. The songs that appeal the most are 'Ik Junoon' and 'Senorita'.

The film boasts of an exuberant on-screen ensemble cast. As a matter of fact, it's an unusual mix of actors who are not prisoners of any image as such and one is curious to see how well they coagulate in this film. Hrithik takes up challenges for himself with every project he chooses to do and tries to outdo himself by pushing his limits. He is in terrific form here, interpreting an extremely intricate and exceptional character fluently, channelizing every emotion in the book through his eyes. The much-talked-about kissing scene in the film is also aesthetically filmed.

Farhan's character is totally different from his previous roles since he is playing the funster here. But beneath all the fun and jokes is a person who's looking for answers. He's concealing something even from his buddies, something that's disconcerting him persistently. Again, for someone who's not a veteran at acting, this is a character that needs to be handled with a lot of understanding and Farhan, thankfully, gets it right. In fact, Farhan is quite a scene-stealer on more occasions than one.

Abhay's choice of roles has always been offbeat and ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA reaffirms his stand on the kind of movies he wants to be associated with. Enacting the role of a rich, well brought-up youngster, Abhay is in supreme form, striking a super balance between light and dramatic moments. In fact, Abhay portrays the role with plentiful charm and magnetism.

Katrina is a revelation. In fact, the actress continues to surprise you with her performances in film after film. Besides making an impact as a glamour girl, she's all out to prove her mettle as an actress of substance with ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA. Kalki plays a Mumbai girl belonging to the upper crust and though it's not a typical 'heroine' role, Kalki infuses life into the character, fitting into the conceived character accurately. Naseeruddin Shah is remarkable in a cameo and so is Deepti Naval. Ariadna Cabrol doesn't get much scope.

On the whole, ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA has its share of plusses and minuses, highs and lows. It's definitely not for ardent fans of kitsch or those with an appetite for typical masala entertainers. This one's more for spectators with refined tastes and sensibilities. It's a film for a more evolved, mature and cinema-literate audience that's geared up to embrace and support newer genres of cinema.

KRK offers 2 Crore to Mallika Sherawat By telecominfo

A fan recently congratulated Mallika Sherawat on a networking website for the success of her item number "Jalebi Bai".

The actress was quick to respond with a " Thank you" and all would have been well if only Kamaal Rashid Khan hadn't interrupted.

The former "Bigg Boss" contestant wasted no time in offering Mallika a role in his upcoming film. His offer was that if she agreed, she would be paid `2 crore and that if the film failed to become a super hit, he would in turn pay her `5 crore as compensation. The actress hasn't bothered to reply to the (tempting) offer yet, but her fans were quick to repudiate Khan and his claims.

Kamaal also went as far as saying that he needed an actor who could play a good boyfriend on screen and an actress who had three boyfriends. He then suggest that John Abraham and Mallika Sherawat would be perfect for the role of the on-screen couple that he wants.
Mallika's fans have been calling KRK names like Badnaami Ka Daag and Film Drohi online. But through all this, wonder what Mallika Sherawat is thinking!
